Biography

Dr. K. Murali is a renowned academic leader, accomplished researcher, and experienced administrator with over 26 years of distinguished service in Civil Engineering education. He currently serves as the Professor and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering and Dean – Academics at Dr. N.G.P. Institute of Technology, Coimbatore, where he provides strategic direction in academic development, research enhancement, accreditation, autonomy, and quality assurance. In recognition of his exceptional contributions to teaching and mentoring, Dr. Murali received the prestigious Smt. Prabhavati Shahi Memorial National Award – 2025 for the Best Outstanding Teacher in Civil Engineering, conferred by the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) during the 55th National Annual Convention. This award highlights his national-level impact as an educator and academic professional. Dr. Murali has served in several senior roles across reputed institutions, including Head of the Department, Controller of Examinations, Academic Coordinator, and Chairman of the Civil Engineering Board (Zone IX), Anna University, for seven years. He has played key roles in implementing Outcome-Based Education (OBE), NEP 2020, NBA and NAAC accreditation, and autonomous curriculum reforms, contributing to institutional excellence at multiple levels. A prolific researcher, Dr. Murali has authored 50+ research publications, four academic books, and presented his works in Malaysia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and other international forums. His research spans environmental engineering, groundwater studies, sustainable materials, climate change, modular construction, and IoT-based infrastructure monitoring. He has guided several Ph.D. scholars at Anna University, contributing significantly to research supervision and capacity-building in civil engineering. Dr. Murali holds multiple Indian design patents, including innovations in groundwater remediation, water absorption testing apparatus, and extrusion structures for wall panels. He has carried out several funded research projects under AICTE, TNSCST, and institutional schemes, and completed consultancy assignments for PWD, L&T, Dyers Association Tirupur, Southern Railway, and various private agencies. He has delivered 35+ invited expert lectures on OBE, NEP 2020, sustainable engineering, career development, and modern construction practices, impacting faculty members, students, and professionals across India. His excellence in innovation has earned him international awards, including Gold Medals at the World Invention Creativity Olympic (South Korea) and International Innovation Exhibitions in Malaysia and Indonesia. Beyond academics, Dr. Murali is the Founder of Purple Sai Helping Hands Trust, actively contributing to poverty eradication, public health awareness, environmental education, and community development. With his outstanding record in teaching, research, innovation, leadership, and social commitment, Dr. K. Murali stands as a highly respected and influential figure in the field of Civil Engineering education in India.
